Bacolod Orthopedic Surgeon Elected as Society President
We wish to congratulate Dr. Chinkin Coruña (CLMMRH) for being duly elected as the new President of Philippine Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (POFAS) during the recently concluded 76th Annual Convention of the Philippine Orthopaedic Association at EDSA Shangri-La last November 19-21, 2025. He is the first officer outside Manila to be voted for the post. He will be working with Drs. Ai Gamboa (Vice-President, SLMC), Chubbers Lopez (Secretary, DLSUMC), and Jovit Paz (Treasurer, POC).
POFAS and the Philippine Orthopaedic Wound Care and Diabetic Limb Society shared a session on Charcot Foot. This was organized and moderated by Drs. Roberto Gabriel L. Lopez and Ronald Allan G. Malahito. Prof. Syah Irwan Shamsul Bahari (Malaysia) discussed Early Detection of Charcot Foot Wound and Charcot Foot Treatment: The Malaysian Experience. Dr. Adrian Joseph C. Tablante (Pampanga) lectured on Conservative Treatment of Charcot Foot (Serial Casting). Fusion and Other Invasive Surgeries for Charcot Foot was expounded by Dr. Merwin Mitchel Q. Musni-Fabia (Quezon City). Dr. Juan Agustin D. Coruña IV (Bacolod) talked about Role of Wound Debridement and NPWT in Charcot Arthropathy.
The Association of Filipino Orthopedic Trauma Surgeons and POFAS collaborated with a session on Fractures in the Elderly moderated by Dr. Juan Agustin D. Coruña IV. Foot Fractures in the Elderly was delivered by Dr. Vanea Uyvico-Lim (Bohol) and Prof. Chong Keen Wai (Singapore) talked about Management of Talar Malunions and Management of Intraarticular Comminuted Calcaneal Fractures. Prof. Fu Yuen Thong (Malaysia) tackled Geriatric Fractures Around the Ankle and Ligament Repair in Ankle Fractures.

The Philippine Board of Orthopaedics - Council of Research and Education held a session on AI. This was organized and moderated by Drs. Nathaniel S. Orillaza, Jr. and Daniel V. Dungca. Speakers and Panelists included Drs. Leo Daniel D. Caro, Jose Anthony Q. Jocson, Bienvenido Leo Antonio M. Caro, Jose Maria R. Coruña, and Juan Agustin D. Coruña IV.
