The IWAS PUTOL program is a diabetes foot care initiative spearheaded by the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRRMMC) in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) and multiple provincial governments. The program aims to educate health workers and communities on proper diabetic foot care to prevent diabetes-related foot complications and amputations.

Last October 2-3, 2025, Silay City hosted orthopedic surgeons from DOH, JRRMMC to educate over seventy health workers from its 16 barangays. Dr. Chinkin Coruña was honored to be invited by the founding president of the Philippine Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society, and chairman emeritus of JRRMMC Dr. Emiliano Tablante. Dr. Coruña represented Bacolod City, leading the foot and ankle unit of Negros island. He spoke on “Myths and Facts on Diabetic Foot Infections,” to an eager audience using the vernacular. He clarified practices and recognized local efforts to improve healthcare delivery to patients afflicted with non-healing wounds.
