International Webinar Delivered
Dr. Chinkin Coruña (Bacolod), together with Dr. Jean Pierre Leung (Baguio) hosted a global discussion on complex lower extremity trauma cases. This event was possible with collaboration among the Association of Filipino Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeons, Philippine Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, Association for the Study and Application of the Methods of Ilizarov - Philippines, AO Trauma Philippines, and the Philippine Orthopaedic Association’s Council for Orthopedic Education. Four countries were in attendance: Colombia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. They were represented by reactors and presenters: Drs. Gustavo Matson (Hospital Universitario de Cartagena), Tanawat Vaseenon (Chiang Mai University), Daniel Dungca (Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital), Bernardino Alpuerto II (Healthway QualiMed Hospital Santa Rosa), Michael Thomas Gonzales (Philippine Orthopedic Center), Ilian Eusebio (Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center. ), Fu Yuen Thong (Queen Elizabeth II Hospital), and Gabriel José Baron (Hospital Universitario del Caribe).
A variety of cases included tri- and quad-malleolar injuries with extensions to the plafond and diaphysis, comminuted talar neck, tongue-type calcaneus, chronic heel bone trauma. Imaging was a focus of the discussion to avert problems that may surprise the surgeon during the procedure, as well as surgical tricks and postoperative rehabilitation to help the overall state of the patient. The event was attended mostly by orthopedic trainees.
