Bacolod Foot Cases Presented at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine

Foot care and public health go hand in hand. They may easily be overlooked especially in patient populations where infectious etiology and uncontrolled co-morbidities hinder wounds from closing naturally. Dr. Chinkin Coruña delivered his lecture, “Principles of Debridement” to an auditorium of dermatologists, infectious disease fellows, and specialists dealing with advanced wound care. He was part of the roster of the Philippine Orthopedic Wound Care and Diabetic Limb Society (POWCDLS).

Now on its fifth year, POWCDLS together with the DOH Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) Department of Dermatology and Philippine Dermatological Society held its first event in Alabang last June 26, 2026 at the RITM Auditorium. Over 80 specialists participated, together with respected faculty: Drs. Jhosephine Raras, Adrian Amiel Burgos, Ariel Sandoval, Jerome Sison, Roberto Gabriel Lopez, Val Constantine Cua, Ravina Bade Shrestha, Jerome Anthony Asuncion, Bianca Criselda Carilo, Jair Kimri Jingco, also including industry and pharmaceutical partners.

“RITM treats a lot of complex wounds, including lesions from leprosy which may very well be not treated even by the busiest experts here or abroad,” says Dr. Coruña. That puts them in specialized bubble of wound care authorities with special knowledge on the topic. “I am glad that I was able to show them Bacolod’s model of wound care which is straightforward, practical, and exhausts available and affordable resources to help patients.
