Ideal Orthopedic Foot Care Featured in Bacolod’s First Wound Caravan

Foot care and hygiene go hand in hand. They may easily be overlooked especially in patient populations where they can’t reach their feet or see their feet due to age or lifestyle diseases. Dr. Chinkin Coruña delivered his lecture, “Principles of Debridement” to packed room of health care professionals dealing with advanced wound care. He was personally invited by the officers of the Philippine Orthopedic Wound Care and Diabetic Limb Society (POWCDLS).
Wound care nurses of The Doctors’ Hospital Inc. from the different sections of Holistic Advanced Wound Care (HAWC) Unit, Operating Room, and floor stations participated in the recently concluded Wound Care Caravan by the POWCDLS. Now on its fourth year, POWCDLS together with an orthopedic group practice, Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology and Riverside Medical Center held its first event in Bacolod City last August 2, 2025 at Circle Inn Hotel. Over 130 participants participated, together with respected faculty: Charles Richard Cabuquit, Gladys Tan, Jerome Anthony Asuncion, Curie Villegas, Roberto Gabriel Lopez, Jason Roxas, and Jair Kimri Jingco, also including industry and pharmaceutical partners.
Among the TDHI staff, in attendance were Maricon Ka-abay, Jonathan Lacbanes, Ashiel Cayanne Chua, Shane Antique, Karyl Mabayag, Joaquin Jochico, Clea Arroyo, Lowelyn Alonzo, Asuncion Tan, and Christine Muzones. The Caravan has wound care experts gather together with to conduct lectures and workshops for allied health practitioners. Dr. Chinkin Coruña, chairman of Orthopedic Surgery and Wound and head of HAWC, elaborated on the Principles of Debridement, a vital lesson adhered to by wound care professionals.
“This is a great opportunity for our wound care nurses and aspiring nursing staff with interest with wound care to get a refresher and access to timely modules. What is amazing is that all patients featured in the discussion comes from our pool of loyal customers being treated in TDHI,” says Dr. Coruña. There is a clear role for us to make our patients better, and we are successful in doing that in Bacolod City, enough for us to share our results to other experts inside and outside the Philippines.
