Severe Foot & Ankle Deformity in the Philippines

On its third mission to the Philippines, Steps2Walk conducts programs around the world to help disabled patients regain their mobility and improve their quality of life. Among the leading orthopedic foot and ankle surgeons who offered humanitarian assistance, Drs. Ariel Palanca 🇺🇸, Cary Chapman 🇺🇸, Geoffry Tymms 🇦🇺 and Rajesh Simon 🇮🇳 shared their expertise to educate, train, and perform surgeries on a dozen patients last June 21-24, 2025. The host hospital was Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center in Manila, and they delivered a wonderful gathering of experts.

Dr. Chinkin Coruña, attending in his capacity as Vice President of the Philippine Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society 🇵🇭 (POFAS), moderated the lecture sessions together with members of POFAS spread all over the country. He had referred a young patient from another island with complex foot deformities on both her feet, and discussed with the international guests innovations and adaptations to accommodate the heavy burden of patients being unable to walk in many regions across the Philippines. With the program a huge success, the outcomes will unfold as followup resumes. A fourth mission of Step2Walk is expected next year, and we look forward seeing you there!
